A New Roadway to Improving Phosphorous Management in Crop Production

Supplying adequate phosphorus (P) to crops in an essential component of agronomic systems. The availability of P in agricultural soils is influenced by interactions between soil properties and management strategies. Shifts in management strategies can have effects upon soil P availability, soil-test P, yield response, and susceptibility of loss to surface runoff and erosion. Improvements in P management require looking at the whole system, and considering agronomic, economic, and environmental outcomes of management decisions.

Biography

John is the Director of The Foundation for Agronomic Research, a non-profit research and education foundation has been created to improve the research, education, economic vigor, and sustainability of agriculture in North American and around the world while protecting and enhancing natural resource management. His research focus at Iowa State University was phosphorus management for agronomic and water quality benefits, soil-test calibration for nutrient recommendations, and soil pH dynamics. He is an alumus of Kansas State University (BS) and Iowa State University (MS and PhD), and a native of Wisconsin.
