Protecting the Nitrogen Investment – N Loss Inhibitors Past and Present
A discussion of N loss inhibitors, old and new(er). How do more recently released materials compare to the basics like nitrapyrin, dicyandiamide, and NBPT? When to expect effective loss protection and when not. What might the future of this ‘space’ look like?
Speaker
John Grove
John Grove is a Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences, based at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center near Princeton, Kentucky, and is responsible for soil fertility and plant nutrition management research and extension. He has taught nutrient management at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He was born in Michigan and joined the UK faculty in 1981, after training in chemistry and soil chemistry at Michigan State and agronomy at the University of Georgia. His research interests are understanding and management of agricultural soil chemical and physical properties and improving our knowledge of; a) spatial and temporal dynamics in soil nutrient cycling and crop nutrition; b) soil, water and atmosphere quality as related to inorganic/organic nutrient source management; and c) crop and tillage rotations with particular emphasis on the no-tillage system. He has directed/co-directed 30 graduate students (14 Ph.D. and 16 M.S.) to the successful conclusion of their programs.
