Considerations for Effective Spray Drone Applications
Application of pesticides with spray drones continue to increase in popularity for multiple reasons. However, performing uniform and consistent applications requires careful consideration of numerous spray parameters that can become more complicated than traditional application methods. Understanding the effective spray swath of the drone remains a critical factor that influences the variability of the spray pattern. Carrier volume and spray adjuvants will also be discussed.

Hunter Medenwald is a master’s student in weed science at Purdue University under the supervision of Dr. Bryan Young. He is originally from a farm in northeastern South Dakota and received his bachelor’s degree in crop and weed sciences from North Dakota State University. His research focuses on several factors that may influence herbicide dose-transfer and efficacy with spray drone applications. These factors include contact versus systemic herbicides, carrier volume, nozzles, and spray adjuvants.
