Weather Considerations for Effective Agricultural Management

The agriculture industry faces numerous risks, but weather is perhaps the most critical factor that can determine the success or failure of a growing season. Weather conditions must be considered throughout every phase of the season—from managing narrow planting windows to deciding the optimal times for applying pesticides, monitoring for diseases, and prioritizing the harvest order. These considerations are equally important during the off-season when planning and preparing for the next cycle. This presentation will highlight the vital role of local weather monitoring stations, known as mesonets, and decision-support tools in helping agricultural professionals make informed decisions throughout the year. By utilizing these resources, producers can better adapt to shifting conditions, mitigate risks, and manage the uncertainties that come with weather variability.
