Corn Nitrogen and Drainage Water Management
Resilient corn production systems are affected by 4R nitrogen management decisions and water. Nitrogen loss is affected by the drainage properties of soils. This presentation will focus on technology that reduces nitrogen fertilizer losses and enhances yields.
Speaker

Kelly Nelson
Dr. Kelly Nelson grew up on a diversified farm in Northwest Missouri. He attended the University of Missouri and attained a B.S. degree in Agronomy. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Crop and Soil Sciences from Michigan State University. He has been with the University of Missouri for over 25 years at the Northern Missouri REEC’s Greenley Memorial Research Farm. Dr. Nelson has a research/extension appointment in agronomic cropping systems. His applied research program is focused on integrated crop and water management systems. His program evaluates cropping systems that enhance the efficiency of producers with an emphasis on increased crop production and profitability. His extension program is focused on drainage water capture and/or reuse systems that utilize new technology to enhance crop productivity and reduce the loss of agrochemicals.
