Short & Long-term Climate Concerns for the Agriculture Community in Indiana and Across the Midwest

The observed climate record for Indiana and the Midwest (approximately 1895-present) reveals changes in precipitation and temperature patterns. Rainfall has become heavier and more frequent in time while temperatures (particularly overnight minimum temperatures) have been warming. The primary question facing climate scientists today, is, are these changes in the climate pattern a result of humans burning of fossil fuels and modifying the landscape? Or, are we experiencing an episode of climate variability in Earth’s climate record? Earth’s climate record, discussion of climate variability and climate change, historic climate data, future climate projections, and mitigation/adaptation tools for possible future climate regimes will be presented.
